What is a custom-made piece of jewellery?

You may have an idea for a piece of jewellery you would like, yet not be able to find it in any store. Tell us your idea and K. Amani Fine Jeweller will be able to make it for you!

You can also select from our existing designs. When you find a design you like, you can ask us to modify it to any specifications you want. Choosing the metal colour, material, ring size, and types of gemstones is only the start of what you can do!

Is the piece I want in stock?

We have a wide variety of jewellery in store. Some, but not all, of the items in store are listed on this website. Likewise, some, but not all, of the items listed on this website are available in store. As you can appreciate, some items sell better in the physical marketplace, and others sell better online, so we have adjusted our inventories to reflect that. If you see an item on the website and want to know if it is available in store, please contact us and we will be happy to answer you right away.

Where is your jewellery made?

All of our custom-designed jewellery is proudly 100% NZ made at our workshop in Auckland. Most of our stock jewellery is made in either New Zealand or Australia from reputable, highly respected designers and suppliers.

Does your jewellery come with a warranty?

We stand by the quality and craftsmanship of our jewellery, and cover it with a lifetime workmanship warranty. If, for some reason, you damage the jewellery, we are happy to repair for a competitive fee.

Our warranty becomes null and void if another jeweller resizes or works on any jewellery purchased from K. Amani Fine Jeweller; we simply cannot be sure of the quality of the work undertaken by another jeweller.

Do you have a print catalogue?

From time to time we print some small promotional catalogues of our most recent and popular work, and have them available in store.

Why should I sign up for your newsletter?

Our newsletter frequently features member-only specials and promotions that only newsletter subscribers have access to. We also offer free tips and advice relating to jewellery and trends. Additionally, newsletter subscribers and Facebook fans are the first to see new designs we launch.

Do you offer sales or discounts?

Because we make much of our own jewellery, we do not offer sales very often. However, we do permanently provide a 20% discount for customers who purchase either an engagement and wedding ring set or two matching wedding rings from us. We are also open to negotiating larger multiple item purchases, as in the case of bridal and bridesmaid jewellery.

Do you sell giftcards or gift certificates?

Yes, we sell gift certificates! They are available in $50 and $100 denominations. Please contact us for details. Gift certificates can be purchased both online and in-store.

I can’t find the piece I want on your site anymore. Can I still get it?

All of our designs are extremely limited editions: only single digit numbers are produced! If it is no longer listed, chances are it has sold out forever! In order to protect the exclusivity of the pieces that have been made, we will not reproduce sold-out items.

However if you want something similar, or are after a particular aspect of that design, we can create it for you!

Why did the price change on the piece I wanted? Can I lock the price in?

Due to the volatile nature of the diamond and precious metal market, prices for jewellery items change on a daily basis. We do our best to insulate our customers from these fluctuations, but we cannot guarantee the same price for long periods of time.

However, if you are considering a piece, contact our friendly team with your details and the piece you want, and we can freeze the price for you for two weeks.

Do you provide appraisals?

All custom-designed pieces with a value greater than NZ$2,500 come with a free independent insurance valuation. If you wish to get a valuation on a piece with a purchase price less than NZ$2,500, we can provide one for you for NZ$49.

If you have a piece from another jeweller that you would like to have independently appraised, we can do so for generally between $80-$120, depending on the complexity of the piece.

How long will it take to receive my jewellery once I place an order?

For custom designs, once you sign off on the design and complete a 30% nonrefundable down-payment on the jewellery, we will complete the order within 3-6 weeks, depending on the complexity of the job and busyness of the season. Add to this time for delivery. In New Zealand, this is generally 1-3 business days (excluding rural areas). Overseas, this can be up to 10 working days. Once you place your order we will email you to confirm the exact manufacturing times. We always strive to complete your work as quickly as possible.

If you order an item that we already have in-stock and which doesn’t require resizing, then we will ship the item out the next business day. For items that require a different size or which are out of stock, it may take up to seven business days before the item is shipped.

Do you ship to PO boxes?

If you are shipping within New Zealand and select our free shipping method, we can ship to a PO Box.

However, for safety’s sake we recommend shipping via courier for $10. This method requires a signature upon delivery, and therefore cannot be shipped to a PO Box.

Will my package be insured?

Yes, your package will be insured, but the amount is dependent upon the shipping method you choose.

For our free shipping option via NZ Post, the maximum an item is insured for is $250 NZD.

For courier delivery with signature, the maximum an item is insured for is $1,500 NZD.

For international delivery, the maximum an item is insured for is $2,000 NZD.

Additional insurance can be purchased to cover items in excess of these amounts. Further information can be found on the NZ Post website. Please contact us to let us know if you would like additional insurance on your item.

Can I commission a custom design?

Can I order an existing design with a different size, shape, or type of gemstone?

Absolutely! Just contact us with the details and the name of the piece you want changed, and we will price it out and visualise it for you.

If I find a jewellery design I like on some other website, can you make it for me?

As a policy, we do not do exact copies of existing jewellery, as we respect the intellectual property of the person or company who designed it (just as we hope others would not copy our designs).

However, we can work from those ideas to create your very own one-off piece of jewellery inspired by those designs. The majority of our customers like this option even better anyway!

Can I order gold or platinum chains?

Yes, almost all of the chains listed on our website are available in gold and platinum versions. However, such chains are made on an as-needed basis, and their price fluctuates with the market. If you would like a quote for a specific style and length of chain, contact us with the chain for which you would like a gold or platinum quote.

Do you buy gold?

Yes. You will need to bring your gold in store for us to inspect and test. It is best to contact us beforehand so we can schedule a time to do this with you. We also require an official government photo ID (e.g.: driver’s license, passport). We offer extremely competitive rates for purchasing gold (much MUCH better than the rates offered by those gold buyers found in the malls, for instance).

Can I use my existing gold or gemstones to make a piece of jewellery?

Yes. We call this remodeling, and it is one of the most common ways that our customers can use the value in their existing jewellery to offset the cost of making a new piece. You will need to bring your jewellery in store for us to inspect and give you a quote on its value. Contact us beforehand so we can schedule a time to do this with you.

Can I order a ring size not listed on the site?

Of course, just contact us with the details and we will organize it for you.

How do I determine my ring size?

We’ve created this handy guide to help you measure your ring size. If you have an existing ring, you can bring it to us in store to measure it for you (if you can’t make it to us, any jeweller should provide this service for free). If you’re still in doubt or cannot get the ring-size otherwise, the best thing to do is rely on the average: the most common ring size for women is N 1/2, and for men is T 1/2. It is better to create the ring too large than too small if resizing is required.

If a ring you purchased on our website does not fit when you receive it, just send it back and we will often be able to size it down for free (a fee may be associated with more complex resizings, or resizing a ring up.) Depending on the time of year, this process may take 1-3 weeks, plus shipping time.

Can I have my jewellery engraved?

Yes, you can on most jewellery. Jewellery that is eligible for for engraving will include an option for engraving on its product page. Enter the text to be engraved before adding the item to your cart. If you already have a piece of jewellery that you would like engraved, contact us for an engraving quote.

Can I buy a ring without the stones?

Yes, for most pieces. Contact us to discuss this option, as design considerations need to be made based on what type of stones you intend on setting into the ring.

What are the other metals in your alloys?
  • All of our silver pieces are sterling silver, which is composed of 92.5% silver. They are 100% free of nickel.
  • Our yellow gold, depending on the karat weight, is a percentage of gold mixed with silver, copper, and zinc. There is no nickel in our yellow gold. 9K is 37.5% gold, 14K is 58.3% gold, and 18K is 75% gold.
  • Our white gold is also free of nickel (unless explicitly stated otherwise), and contains a mixture of gold, palladium, silver, and copper. It is often rhodium plated to increase shine.
  • Platinum and palladium are both 95% pure and hypoallergenic. For both platinum and palladium, the other 5% of the alloy is composed of other platinum group metals: ruthenium, iridium, or a combination of the two, which varies from design to design.

Will your silver tarnish?

All silver eventually tarnishes – the only difference is the rate. The rate of tarnish is greatly affected by whether or not you live near the ocean or sulphur-rich areas (like Rotorua, New Zealand), and how often the piece is worn. There are many silver polishes available today that are easy to use. Also, a quick dip in a water and baking soda mix can clean sterling silver like new (take care when gemstones are involved and be gentle). If you really want to prolong the shine, wear your sterling silver often. When not worn, store it in an airtight bag or container.

Are your stones ethically sourced?

Yes. K. Amani complies with the Kimberly Process against the trade of gemstones arising from conflict. We are able to verify the source of our stones through our reputable suppliers.

What quality are your gemstones?

All of our coloured gemstones are AAA grade and have no naked eye visible inclusions (excluding rubies and emeralds).

Can I order a different diamond from the one shown in the listing?

Of course. Simply contact us with the product in question and we can arrange a quote for you.

Can I get a grading report for my gemstone?

All the diamonds in our custom-designed jewellery come with a grading certificate from a recognized body (most commonly GIA). We don’t believe the grading systems available for coloured gemstones are accurate enough for the consistently high quality we demand, so we do not grade coloured gemstones. You are more than welcome to get these graded once you have your jewellery. We stand by our promise that the stones in our jewellery are exactly what we indicate.

Are your gemstones enhanced?

The gems for sale with K. Amani Fine Jeweller may be treated with industry-accepted practices like heating. (Many of our gems are not treated at all.) Some varieties like topaz, sapphire, ruby, emerald, tanzanite, and black diamond are almost always heated. Heating helps to improve the colour of a stone and make the stone more vibrant and desirable. We do not sell gemstones treated in non-standard ways (e.g.: chatham diffusion or lasering).

Will you set my gemstone?

Yes, we are willing to design a custom piece of jewellery to match your existing gemstone. It is best to discuss this with us in person, as we will need to see your gemstone to take its measurements and make sure it is viable for stone-setting.

Can I take my ring to be resized at a different jeweller?

You are welcome to do so. However, please note that if you have your ring resized at a jeweller other than K. Amani, your lifetime workmanship warranty with us will be invalidated. If you bring your ring to K. Amani Fine Jeweller, your warranty will remain valid. Our price for a resize down is generally between $30-$50. Resizing up is generally between $40-80. Each of these prices is dependent on the ring’s material, size, and design, and may vary higher or lower.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Accepted forms of payment online include bank deposits and credit card transactions via Paypal. In store we accept cash, EFTPOS, and credit card payments (Visa and Mastercard only). We also offer financing (see below) via Gilrose Finance.

Do you charge sales tax?

Listed prices include 15% GST for NZ orders. Orders outside of NZ will receive a 15% discount. If you place an international order with us, it is up to you to pay any duty or import fees through your nation’s customs.
